The Capitol -Madison, Wisconsin

Each and every state of the States holds surprise for it’s visitors. Wisconsin is the first state of the US I visited after crossing multi-states. I had to attend a Conference at University of Wisconsin-Madison sponsored by Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Cornell University, Ithaca. But in the end it was an amazing road trip with unforgettable memories. The trip started from Ithaca, New York.

The journey was completed in about 10hours. We stopped at multiple places to collect our food and listened to songs. Before this road trip I saw buildings with five or six stories but for the first time in my life I saw tall towers. and I could not count the stories this time not just for their height but for also for their beauty! The very first state I crossed after New York was Pennsylvania, then Ohio, Indianapolis, Illinois and finally Wisconsin. I was awestruck by the beauty of the States. I so badly wanted to freeze my amazing moments.

We reached Madison campus of University of Wisconsin in the late evening. Our staying arrangements were pre-decided – shared room with Wisconsin student. I slept on couch for three nights and hardly saw my room partner as she was busy with her lab work and I with the Conference. It was a hot August. The day before departure I finally saw her and asked her to have a photo of us clicked as a memory and she happily agreed.

The Conference was on Plant Breeding. The location was on beautiful Lake side. The participants were taken to corn fields where advanced research works were going on. Wisconsin is also known as “Dairyland of America”. Cultivation of corn for the livestock is one of the popular agricultural activity here.

After attending Conference we had some time left so visited few landmarks of Wisconsin. Completion of Day one meeting was followed by a visit to the Wisconsin State Capitol – headquarter of the state Wisconsin located in Madison. It is a giant white building – architecturally beautiful. Actual building was reconstructed four times. This fourth Capitol building has seen many ups and downs. It is the tallest building in Madison.

Inside view of the Capitol left me speechless. It is magnificent. The building is a National Historic Landmark Restoration work is commendable due to how the original 1917 appearance is preserved till date.

After completion of Day two meeting we went to Wisconsin Veterans’ Museum – another popular landmark in Wisconsin. The photos of the museum brings lots of good memories. Few days back I was going through all my US pics and then searched on the internet for popular landmarks in Wisconsin – found Veterans Museum on the list, I was overjoyed thinking I have been to this place!

Abraham Lincoln is my favorite personality in American History. I have watched Lincoln – a 2012 biographical historical drama film. The pic above with the bust of Mr. Lincoln is one of my favorites.

Veterans Museum is dedicated to telling the stories of the veterans of Wisconsin. The museum was established in in 1901. It showcases the history of veterans of Wisconsin who served in the US military from the American Civil War to present day.

We walked the city on our own. This has planted a deep desire in me to come back again and explore more of this beautiful place.

Beautiful Campus

Final day of the conference was well spent exploring University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Bid adieu to my host. The time flew very quickly. Wisconsin trip is just one of the best time I had spent in the USA. Can’t wait for many more trips like this!
