Winter and I share a special relationship! When the cool breeze touches my cheek I smile! That is happiness! I remember that morning when I first saw snow of my life! I literally screamed out of excitement. I didn’t believe it was for real.
On Halloween night I roamed around the town with my friends. It started getting cold and my American friends told it would snow very soon.
I was waiting eagerly. Not many days had passed when it snowed finally. I opened the window and saw snow! For the first time! I was in magical world! I rushed out of my room and started playing with the snow….I was not a young girl that moment…I was transformed into a child!
It snowed almost every day after that. My apartment was not very big one. Four students with four small rooms with common kitchen used to stay together. It was Maplewood apartment. There was one temperature controller machine which can reduce or increase the temperature of the room and if you want to get some air there is “fan” also in this machine. When it started getting cold, at first I didn’t know how to operate it. I covered myself with all the warm dresses 🙂 Then l learnt how to operate the machine. It was so funny to see outside snowing and warm inside the room. My favorite place in the room was nearby the window.
I loved snowy days. Sometimes I’d drag my roomie to take a pic with me without warm-wear. Crazy me!
Heavy snowfall for a night would block the entry towards our apartment. In the morning I used to find workers cleaning snow. Sometimes on some particular paths they used to spread special kind of salt which would melt snow very quickly but that used to make the way very slippery!
I loved walking on the road when it snowed. I loved when snow flakes fell on me. I would stop and close my umbrella for a while….The ice-gorges started to emerge where once water continued flowing. Most of the days I would miss College Bus. But never regretted it as I could walk through the beautiful paths. I loved the wooden stairs.
The song that I repeatedly used to listen while going through this path was “Jashn-e bahara” from Jodha Akbar. Even now when I listen to this song I remember that time when I used to go to College with my ipad.
Cornell campus is very beautiful. It changes it’s face as per the season. During autumn dry orange-colored leaves are everywhere. Cleaning vehicles collect all dry leaves. During winter all the leaves of the trees are gone. It appears as if we have entered into a Harry Potter movie scene!
Ice-cream when it’s snowing?! Yes! That’s another crazy thing I did at Cornell! Cornell dairy has got delicious ice-cream flavors. I used to grab one of’em and headed straight to the Mann Library. One laptop was not enough to complete the assignments fast so I borrowed another one from the library and put my heart and soul to the assignment (Probably I was the only person who would submit the tasks consistently at the last moment) :-).
While going to the college I used to peep through the doors of the skating ground. Some skaters were truly brilliant.
Once some of the Indian students were invited by Professor Peter Hobbs. It snowed moderately that day. We played, took snaps. That day for the first time I experienced “hot seat” of a car. It was very nice day!
Professor Mark Sorrells organized one party with MPS students before final departure. It snowed heavily that day. And with one thin jacket and one pair of socks and one umbrella I started walking towards the lab as if I were a “Snow-Warrior”. I wanted to feel the freshness of snow. When I reached Mark’s Lab my hands and feet were numb! I warmed myself by putting myself near room heater.
I spent the evening before I left Ithaca by walking one last time on the paths that I usually walked during my stay – I was already feeling sad as it was my last evening at Cornell! I clicked as many photos as I could. My first snowfall experience at Ithaca is one of the best experiences of my life!
I LOVE winter!
