When the leaves start to glow orangish, Cornell Campus gets ready for Judy’s day celebration. Annual Judy’s Day falls on September. On this day through demonstrations connection between plants and humanity is illustrated at F.R. Newman Arboretum of Cornell Plantations in the beloved memory of Ithaca teacher Judy Abrams funded by her family, Saquish Foundation and SIRUS Fund. Judy Abrams had immense love and respect for plants. This event is open to people of all ages.
Every year one theme is chosen for this educational event. Illustration of not only bioscience is there, dance, games and art showcase of various countries are there. Cornell student volunteers exhibit different aspects of life. During my visit grape stomping, tea culture, African music, exhibition of crops, henna arts, floral arts, medicinal values of plants etc. were showcased.
Floriculture exhibition is the one I liked very much for artistic way of presentation.
Plant Breeding and Genetics Department exhibited different types of rice (both cooked and raw) and all other related information about rice.
Japan is famous for many things but how they have retained their cultural traditions is amazing! Learnt about Japanese Tea Ceremony at this event.
Not only the departments, different communities also showcase relation between their culture with nature. I found Indian community’s tent with spices exhibition.
I loved how children actively participate and learn about nature.
Nothing can be better than learning through practical experience. I learnt so much from this exhibition. Before this, I never had such opportunity to learn with fun. One of my many memorable events at Ithaca!
