After all the formal wedding rituals are over friends, relatives, neighbors and colleagues are invited at groom’s house for reception or at any suitable location (for example hotel). It is not very formal occasion. Invitees gift the bride and the groom. Elders bless them with “dhaan and durba”. The bride usually wears all the traditional clothes and ornaments during the wedding rituals. Reception gives her a chance to showcase her beauty in different way. I always like the idea of presenting oneself (the bride) with different make up look. Bengali wedding jewellery is all about wearing gold ornaments. Why not wear something else for your reception?
This blog will give some ideas for your perfect reception look with Rajputana touch.
You wear saree for all the rituals. Wearing bridal lehenga will bring a distinct aura. Lehenga with different shades of pink/red bring more charmness to bridal look. You can combine beautiful jewellery of various regions. I love to add a net-shawl/dupatta of a color other than the lehenga set color. It gives brighter look and does not look monotonous (In the above photo the bride is wearing sky blue color net-dupatta).
Maang Tikka/Tikli: I am obsessed with maang tikka (in Bengali Tikli) especially Rajasthani maang tikka/borla. It gives a rich look. You can also experiment with other types of maang tikka. But nothing beats Rajasthani Borla.
Hair accessories: These days so many designs of hair accessories are available in the market that I cannot decide on which particular one to buy. Wedding reception is a special day. So all the accessories have to be special too. Choose well designed hair accessories. If you cover the head partially all the accessories may not be visible yet without the accessories bridal hairstyle remains incomplete.
Rajasthani Nathni or Nose Ring: Rajasthani style rose ring fits well with lehenga. Look for kundan nose ring for adding extra bridal beauty.
Earrings: When it comes to earrings I would recommend wearing larger ones for this special day. Try on various earrings and check which one looks perfect with your attire. Colored kundan jewellery gives a charming look.
Necklace: Rajasthani choker/aad gives a royal look. I love seeing women wearing aad for special occasions. It’s so beautiful. You can wear double kundan necklaces if you want to combine Rajasthani bridal look and trendy look.
Haathphool: When it comes to hand accessories I highly recommend wearing haathphool for enriched Rajasthani look. Five finger rings are joined to one flower-like design. These days haathphool with single finger ring is trendy. It is simple yet graceful.
Bangles: I love wearing bangles with any kind of dress be it Indian or Western. On Reception wear bangles matching with the dress. There are so many designs of bangles in the market. Choose any special set or combination of bangles for your final big day.
Kamarbandh: Kamarbandh gives the final touch to the glamorous bride. Usually in South Indian weddings kamarbandh is must. But wearing a kundan kamarbandh with lehenga will make the bride more stylish.
Reception program gives you the chance to come out of usual regional bridal look, so make full use of it to get a divine yet charismatic look. Before finalizing the jewellery and the dress try them on. If adjustment due to size is required do it well before the big day.
